Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp

Okonjima, Namibia

A Private World Of Predators & Peace

Set against the Omboroko Mountains and threaded through acacia thornveld, Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp occupies its own private corner of the 2,000-hectare Okonjima Nature Reserve, two and a half kilometres from the reserve’s Plains Camp. Thatched chalets, positioned well apart from one another for privacy, blend earthy tones with African design across a home built around Namibia’s most storied conservation success.

That success is AfriCat, whose three decades of leopard research have unfolded on this same ground. A minimum two-night stay opens the door to tracking these collared cats through the reserve’s mountainous outcrops and riverine thickets, guided by rangers who know the terrain and the animals within it. Game drives and night drives reveal a broader cast, from brown hyena to pangolin, while guided bush walks and hiking trails offer a slower, closer encounter with the reserve’s birdlife and bush detail.

Each chalet opens onto a semi-detached sala, where a Nespresso station and its own small waterhole make for unhurried mornings before the day’s tracking begins. Air conditioning sees off the heat, glass windows frame the mountains, and a safety-deposit box and undercover private parking round out the practical comforts. A Junior Suite, with its own lounge and fireplace, offers a further layer of privacy for those seeking a little more room.

As evening approaches, the Camelthorn lapa becomes the camp’s beating heart: fireplaces indoors and out, a restaurant serving both, and views across the waterhole where the reserve’s wildlife often gathers to drink as the light fades over the mountains.
