Set on the fringes of Chefchaouen’s medina, where the whitewashed lanes give way to indigo walls, Hôtel Ziryab sits within a few minutes’ walk of the Ras El Ma waterfall and the historic Kasbah. The Rif Mountains rise beyond the rooftops, and the sound of the river carries up through the terraces below. From here, the Outa El Hammam Square and the labyrinthine souks of the blue city are an easy stroll away, as is the Spanish Mosque on its hillside above town.
Inside, the hotel embraces the palette that has made Chefchaouen famous, its courtyards and stairwells washed in shades of blue against white plasterwork, with garden greenery softening the stone. Each room has been individually decorated, drawing on traditional Moroccan craftsmanship alongside softer, contemporary touches, giving the whole property a lived-in, personal warmth rather than a uniform hotel feel.
Accommodation ranges from cosy mountain-view rooms to the more spacious Suite Royale Giovanni, with its private terrace and river outlook, and the Suite Familiale Ambre, suited to those travelling together. Bathrooms come with a shower or bath, bidet & bathrobes, and many rooms open onto a private balcony or patio overlooking the pool, river or mountains beyond.
At the heart of the stay is the garden, where breakfast is served each morning beside the pool, and the on-site restaurant serves Moroccan classics alongside international dishes through the day. Staff are attentive, and the sense of being personally looked after runs through the entire visit.
