Brijrama Palace

Varanasi, India

India's Holi City

Also known as Kashi (city of spiritual light) and Banaras, Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in India and one of Hinduism and Jainism’s holiest places. It has even found a place in Buddhist scriptures and in the Sanskrit epic of Mahabharata. To visit this ancient Indian city is to be immersed in a history and culture of nearly unfathomable depth.

Brijrama Palace is one of the oldest landmarks on the banks of the river.  The Palace was built in the year 1812 by ‘Shridhara Narayana Munshi’ who was the minister for the estate of Nagpur. Munshi Ghat, adjacent to the palace is named after him.  In 1915, the Brahmin King of Darbhanga (Bihar) ‘Rameshwar Singh Bahadur’ acquired the palace and the Ghat came to be known as Darbhanga Ghat.

The architecture and the design is directly influenced by the erstwhile ruling dynasty of the Marathas. The rooms and suites offer a unique experience of old world charm with completely modern facilities whilst the spacious communal areas are light and airy with the terraces affording spectacular vistas at sunrise & sunset.

A choice of multiple cuisines including international and traditional local fare are on offer in a choice of dining locations within the Palace.  BrijRama also offers dedicated facilities & services to tailor ceremonies, poojas or any other Hindu ritual or rites for individual guests.  With the religious aspect of Hinduism being the very essence of Varanasi this ethos at BrijRama Palace is truly unique.

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.

We wanted the opportunity to see as many wildlife parks as possible and the Classic Safari Company provided an action-packed itinerary that included six, with 11 tiger sightings and nine leopard. This was overlaid with an introduction to Jaisalmer, Jaipur and the 'real' India. Pench and Panna were the hidden gems of a really great trip, very well organised, seamless and enjoyable. As a solo traveller I felt incredibly safe at all times. I want to go back!

The trip exceeded my expectations and was the best family holiday I have ever had. Our children simply loved it and now I know more about African wildlife than they do about our own farm animals.
