Dhensa Boutique Hotel is a luxury all-suite retreat located in a pine forest in the heart of the verdant and lush Punakha Valley. Overlooking the Punakha river and the hundreds of paddy fields that stair-step down to the valley floor, it embraces its beautiful mountain environment and lives up to its name, which translates to ‘heavenly abode’.
The hotel is design lead and pays homage to the beauty of simplicity with minimal styling and elegant décor. The 24 suites – set in six cottages – are a sanctuary of calm with stripped wooden floors, oversized beds dressed in crisp white linen and bathtubs set against large French with stunning views. The breathtaking views take centre stage and each room has a private balcony to ensure that every guest has quiet space to relax and drink in the tranquility.
Dining follows a similar theme with a menu of nourishing, nurturing food that is unashamedly uncomplicated although the dishes, created using seasonal, local produce, are packed with natural flavour. Guests have the option to dine inside or al fresco on the lovely outdoor terrace which is also ideal for a pre-dinner aperitif. The spa offers yoga and is equipped with two treatment rooms, a steam room, an outdoor Bhutanese hot stone bath and a sauna while activities such as hiking and river rafting are available to those who wish to partake.
