The original house was designed by the French architect Claude Sahut, who was also commissioned to design Lima’s Presidential Palace and several theatres and gardens around the city. The neighbourhood, a protected historic area is surrounded with historic houses, its own main square and the famous Puente de los Suspiros (Lima’s Bridge of Sighs).
