Khem Villas

Ranthambore National Park, India

Heart of the jungle

Khem Vilas is a haven set among 20 acres of tranquil grassland, forest and lakes beside Ranthambhore Park and only 15 minutes by jeep from the small town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.

The owners Goverdhan and Usha are pillars of the local rural community, having set up the hospital and school and their whole ethos is sustainable tourism. Their 20 acres of grassland, lakes and forest were hand-planted over a decade ago, and have now become a natural habitat for many animals and birds.

The main building provides four bedrooms that are self contained and can be used as individual rooms or can provide the option for a small group to hire the entire portion as a private space to be enjoyed together. All the rooms are air-conditioned spacious with en suite bathrooms. The upstairs rooms have large bay windows from which you can enjoy the view, along with the multitude of sounds of nature.  Just below the Rooms at Khem Villas, and housed within the Main Building are the Library and the adjoining Bar.

Aside from daily forays into Ranthambore Park to track tigers (sadly not guaranteed), Ranthambhore Fort, a hilltop Fort built in 900AD by the Rajput rulers, is also well worth a visit, camel rides to nearby villages can also be arranged whilst birdwatchers will delight in a jeep expedition to Chambal River or Laje Soorwal.  There is a pool and spa in camp.
