Moela

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Botswana

Mighty zebra migration

Moela is the culmination of a visionary partnership between the Dugmore family, pioneers in Botswana’s safari industry for nearly 40 years, and two local community members, Moela and Gloria. Together  they have created an extraordinary safari lodge that thrives on the boundaries of wildlife areas, ensuring sustainable protection and expansion of the natural world whilst remaining committed to community empowerment.

The lodge is a beautifully crafted hideaway in Botswana’s Boteti River Valley, where the Okavango Delta drains into the Kalahari Desert, in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. It sits in the 700ha Ngande Private Reserve, a community owned, exclusive use concession within the National Park boundary.

The eight open plan, thatched villas are perched on the Boteti cliffs with spectacular panoramas over the bustling valley. Each villa is equipped with an elegant viewing deck from which to sip a cold gin and tonic, while enjoying the endless streams of wildlife drinking from the water below. The large thatched living area includes an open plan dining room, a well‐stocked library, bar, beautiful swimming pool furnished with daybeds and multiple ‘chill out’ areas to relax after your long flight or action-packed game drive.

Wildlife viewing is productive all year. In the dry season, Moela safari lodge enjoys 6 months of migratory zebra and wildebeest without having to get in a safari car. Throughout the year, impala, kudu, and giraffe are plentiful and it’s not uncommon to have groups of over a hundred elephant in the valley below. The large number of herbivores attracts predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog.

Here you are guided by experienced Batswana guides and San Bushman who have a close relationship with the Makgadikgadi’s dramatic landscape and are passionate about their land and culture. You will learn first‐hand about their fascinating customs and ancient traditions.

Moela allows you to experience the wild beauty of Botswana whilst supporting a worthy business partnership, dedicated to protecting the wilderness and the people who call it home.
