Sofitel

Winter Palace

Luxor, Egypt

Former haunt of Christie & Carter

The Sofitel Winter Palace is a 5-star luxury hotel on the banks of the river Nile in Luxor, set amidst ancient temples and tropical gardens. Built in 1886 by British explorers, archaeologist Howard Carter, discoverer of Tutankhamen’s tomb, wandered the gardens of this sumptuous hotel almost a century ago and Agatha Christie wrote her famed novel ‘Death on the Nile’ here in 1937.

Each of the 86 rooms and 6 suites captures the allure of the past, decorated in colonial style with fine wooden furniture, rich fabrics and a colour palate of crimson and gold. Choose either garden or Nile views and enjoy the breeze from your balcony or upgrade to a suite for real luxury and a team of personal butlers.

Strolling though the bougainvillea-lined gardens you will come across the Central...

An absolutely fantastic travel company - every one of the many trips they have organised for us over 22 years have been faultless and fabulous.

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.
