Tambopata Reserve - Peru

Tambopata

Research Centre

An educational experience in the Amazon

Tambopata Research Centre is one of the most remote rainforest lodges in South America, offering adventurous travellers an outstanding opportunity to engage with the natural wonders of the Amazon. The journey time from Puerto Maldonado takes approximately 5 hours.

The Tambopata Research Centre is a comfortable 18-bedroom lodge and is home to both tourists and researchers. Because of its remote, uninhabited wilderness location, the lodge infrastructure is of a small scale. Guestrooms are built using natural materials, and have an open side providing views to the surrounding forest with bathrooms on a shared basis. The main dining and lounge area is a great spot to meet with researchers, biologists and ecologists and learn about the conservation research that takes place here.

Within the 700,000 hectare uninhabited nucleus of the reserve, sightings of monkeys, macaws and other large species become more frequent. Jaguars are sometimes seen near the river bank! Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. The TRC’s isolated location, inside an uninhabited area of the Tambopata National Reserve and next to the Bahajua-Sonene National Park, means that the rainforest ecosystem around it remains pristine, while the populations of wild animals are all at carrying capacity.

Tambopata Research Centre offers an immersive and educational stay in the Amazon with wonderful wildlife sightings.

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.

We wanted the opportunity to see as many wildlife parks as possible and the Classic Safari Company provided an action-packed itinerary that included six, with 11 tiger sightings and nine leopard. This was overlaid with an introduction to Jaisalmer, Jaipur and the 'real' India. Pench and Panna were the hidden gems of a really great trip, very well organised, seamless and enjoyable. As a solo traveller I felt incredibly safe at all times. I want to go back!

Mark Taylor

The trip exceeded my expectations and was the best family holiday I have ever had. Our children simply loved it and now I know more about African wildlife than they do about our own farm animals.
