The House of MG occupies a restored 1920s mansion in the heart of Ahmedabad, steps from the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque in India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City. Built by the Mangaldas family, prominent textile merchants of their era, the property later hosted Mahatma Gandhi on his return from South Africa in 1915, and today carries that legacy forward as a full-service heritage hotel threaded through green courtyards and shaded verandahs.

Two decades of ongoing handcrafted restoration define the aesthetic. Teak wood furniture, up-cycled upholstery, and vintage family photographs furnish interiors built and maintained by local craftsmen, while a gallery of heirloom textiles, jewellery, and silver from the Mangaldas collection sits alongside a heritage bookstore within the grounds.

Rooms and suites unfold across the mansion’s original floors, each designed around traditional Gujarati craftsmanship: carved teak furniture, Gujarati swing sofas, and family photographs set against air-conditioned comfort. Many rooms open onto private balconies or dressing areas, and the highest categories, once home to senior family members, include personal concierge service, complimentary airport transfers, and valet.

Dining centres on Agashiye, the celebrated rooftop restaurant serving Gujarati thali under the stars, alongside The Green House café for lighter fare and the hidden Pol Kholi tucked within Mangaldas ni Haveli. Beyond the mansion walls, guests can join guided heritage walks and rickshaw tours through Ahmedabad’s old pols, or return to unwind at the seventeen-metre indoor lotus pool beneath its hand-painted ceiling.
