Migration Madness

The Serengeti, Tanzania

Migration Madness

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is home to the ultimate safari spectacle – the annual wildebeest migration – when millions of wildebeest and zebra flow into the northern reaches of the park in search of fresh grasses. They are closely followed by predators such as lion, cheetah and hyena, and have to run the gauntlet of the crocodile infested waters of the Mara River and its tributaries to cross parts of this vast landscape.

Combine this spectacle with stunning safari camps and you have the perfect safari adventure! 3 nights at Namiri Plains, a luxury camp located in Central Serengeti, fits perfectly with 3 nights at Sayari Camp in the north, close to the Mara River. The migration path and flow is dictated by many factors, so combining two areas of this incredible park will...

8 UNFORGETTABLE DAYS

DAY 1 | ARUSHA | 1 NIGHT

Arrive to Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will be met and privately transferred to Legendary Lodge for an overnight stay. A haven of lush, tropical gardens, it’s the perfect place to recover from your flight.

DAY 2-4 | CENTRAL SERENGETI | 3 NIGHTS

The real adventure starts today as you transfer to the local airstrip to join a light aircraft charter flight into the Central Serengeti to spend 3 nights at Namiri Plains camp. Before the camp was built, the grasslands were closed for 20 years to provide crucial time for the cheetah population to recover. With the nearest camp over an hour away, you will experience these vast grasslands all to yourself. Here you will find lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena, as well as herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo, and many rare animals, such as aardvark, pangolin, wildcat and the ferocious honey badger. Enjoy 4WD game drives and exhilarating guided safari walks.

DAY 5-7 | SERENGETI NORTH | 3 NIGHTS

Today you will join another charter flight, flying toward the northern boundary of the park, to spend 3 nights at Sayari camp located just a couple of kilometres from the famed Mara River. The camp is in a prime location to take advantage of the migration as the wildebeest attempt to cross the Mara River, full of hungry crocodile. Beside the wildebeest herds there’s lion, cheetah, leopard, zebra, elephant, hyena, and various antelope species, along with 500 species of local and migratory birds. You will enjoy 4WD game drives, guided safari walks as well as the opportunity to visit local communities, if that is of interest.

DAY 8 | END OF SAFARI

Today, after your final morning game drive and breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip to join a scheduled charter flight to Kilimanjaro for your onward international connection.

An absolutely fantastic travel company - every one of the many trips they have organised for us over 22 years have been faultless and fabulous.

Judith & Roger Williams

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.
