Bird’s the Word!
SOUTH LUANGWA, THE LOWER ZAMBEZI, MANA POOLS & VIC FALLS
At The Classic Safari Company we take pride in knowing our destinations inside out so we recently sent Ella Kiddell on a journey through Zambia and Zimbabwe to scope out the latest and greatest safari offerings.

Zambia offers one of the last African rivers that has a true flood boasting rivulets and oxbow lagoons teeming with game and birdlife, whilst neighbouring Zimbabwe delivers arguably some of the best guiding and wildlife viewing that can be found on the continent.

Whilst travelling in October / November is hot in these parts, with temperatures often exceeding the high thirties, the game viewing is  phenomenal! As wildlife congregates around rapidly diminishing water supplies you’ll witness tense encounters, fascinating interactions and unprecedented behaviour. Imagine six civet, a band of mongoose, several crested guinea fowl and a couple of nervous impala all drinking alongside four leopard at a waterhole – it happened right in front of Kanga Camp! Elephants in search of water nonchalantly wander through the Luangwa Valley’s Nkwali & Nsefu Safari Camps and an abundance of migrating birds, such as carmine bee-eaters (pictured above) flock to Zambezi Sands River Camp.

Boasting raw wildlife experiences, freely moving game, magnificent river systems, outstanding, owner operated safari outfits and persuasive pricing a ‘Zim & Zam’ combination is seriously hard to beat!

SOMALISA
HWANGE, ZIMBABWE
For some of the best guiding in Africa, head to Somalisa in Hwange. Sandy, palm dotted plains provide a beautiful contrast to the Lower Zambezi’s riverine environments, permanent waterholes attract thousands of elephants and the magnificent black-maned lions are a sight to behold.
EXEMPLARY WALKING
SOUTH LUANGWA, ZAMBIA
Zambia is the birthplace of the walking safari and the traditional outfitters here are exemplary. With game unused to man and wildlife densities like no other on the continent, South Luangwa is THE place to have your evolutionary instincts stirred as you track big predators on foot!
CHIAWA
LOWER ZAMBEZI, ZAMBIA
Hippos wallowing and elephants snorkelling past provide endless entertainment here but canoeing through shallow channels teeming with kingfisher, silently gliding past unperturbed troops of baboons or over shadowy crocodiles, is an enchanting and spine-tingling experience.
