Delfin Amazon Cruises
Delfin Amazon Cruises operate in the remote Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which spans more that 5 million acres. Known also as the ‘mirror forest’, it is the largest protected flooded forest in the world, making it a prime swathe of intact jungle. During the rainy season in the Andes, water levels rise throughout all the rivers of Amazonia, flooding 85% of the reserve and rendering is accessible only by boat. During the lower water season life regenerates in many fascinating ways, the flora and fauna are transformed and the Pacaya Samiria becomes ideal for discovery on foot.
Delfin’s small luxury ships will take you to the heart of this astonishing ecosystem. Your Amazon journey takes off in Iquitos were you will be picked up and taken to your vessel and in the following days you will experience a combination of natural wonders, dramatic scenery and indigenous cultural history. Small skiff boat and kayak exploration will allow you to reach the remotest pockets of the Peruvian Amazon and you’ll visit local communities, browse vibrant markets, try your hand at piranha fishing, learn about the plight of manatees at the Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre of River Mammals, swim with dolphins and come face to face with the Amazon’s fascinating flora and fauna with a mixture of both day and night safaris.
