The following information has been obtained from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Smartraveller website.  However, as every country decides who can enter or leave through its borders, and entry and exit requirements can change at short notice, we recommend you reconfirm all requirements before you depart.

TO ENTER

To enter Tanzania, you must:

  • take a COVID-19 RT-PCR test within 72 hours of your arrival, and present the negative certificate at your point of entry;
  • on arrival, pay $25 USD to undertake a mandatory rapid test;
  • complete the Ministry of Health’s online surveillance form within 24 hours of arrival

Depending on your origin or transit countries you may also be required to undertake 14 days quarantine at your own cost.

TO DEPART

If you want to leave Tanzania and you need a COVID-19 test before travelling, you can book a test on the Ministry of Health’s online booking system.
Check COVID-19 requirements with your airline(s) and all transit locations prior to travel.

STAYING IN COUNTRY

The Tanzanian government advises international travellers to follow infection prevention and control measures such as hand hygiene, mask wearing and physical distancing.

VISAS

You need a visa to enter Tanzania and Tanzania has introduced an online visa application form that needs to be submitted and approved online in advance of travel.
Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice.
Tanzania is very strict with enforcing visa rules.

YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION

Proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required for entry to Tanzania if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever risk country. Some airlines may want to see one when you leave.  Find out about returning to Australia after exposure to yellow fever.
