Two weeks in Peru...
Make your way to Iquitos and boat the Delfin II riverboat for a boutique cruise exploring the depths of the Peruvian Amazon. A three-night adventure allows you to search for the Amazon’s rare birdlife and mammals and to explore the tributaries that feed these rivers. Guides are local naturalists and experts in spotting wildlife. There is also the opportunity to explore on kayaks which offer a quiet way to venture into remote, seldom-visited side streams. Here tropical style leets comfort and refined elegance.
From Iquitos, a quick flight to Cusco and a road transfer to the Sacred Valley allows for two nights at the Rio Sagrado hotel on the banks of the Urubamba River. Enjoy the charm of the property decorated in local Peruvian style while dining on local cuisine and exploring the surrounds such as the salt mines of Maras or the agricultural terraces of Moray.
High on the bucket list for many is a day at Machu Picchu. Take the Vistadome train there and the Hiram Bingham on the way back, with an afternoon to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Machu Picchu with your guide. Even better is that you have a night at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, therefore you can experience seeing sunset and sunrise right over the citadel itself.
After taking the train on return to Cusco, three nights await at La Casona, Cusco’s first boutique hotel which reflects the city’s melange of cultures and traditions. The property is a 16th century Spanish mansion, on the doorstep to the Museum of Pre-Colombian Art and nearby to the popular San Blass artist district which you may want to explore during time at leisure in the city. While in town and with your guide you can also head out on a walking tour and learn about the highlights of the majestic city, and/or visit the nearby Pisac Markets.
Take the overnight Belmond Andean Explorer train for a unique journey between mountain and clouds, and between mountains and highlands. The experience is one of the world’s great train journeys, which has you arrive to Puno, before your final three nights at Titilaka.
Titilaka is located on a private peninsula on the shores of Lake Titicaca, a sophisticated refuge for travellers to explore the natural, cultural, and historical resources of the remote mystical region. Over a three night stay you can elect to meet local communities on the islands of Lake Titicaca and you can admire the work of the skilled reed raftsmen or expert weavers. There are many treks nearby to embark on, archaeological complexes and more – an experiential lodge with an immersive experience to round off your itinerary and time in Peru.
