Nestled in the wilderness of southern Patagonia on the banks of Lago del Desierto, Aguas Arriba Lodge is just 37km from the village of El Chaltén, yet remains peacefully secluded and immersed in nature.

The lodge is part of the Estancia Rio de las Vueltas, a property with 700 hectares of mountain, 900 metres of shoreline and swathes of southern beech forest. Built entirely from sustainable wood and recycled logs, this eco-friendly cabin blends seamlessly into the landscape whilst oversized windows allow views of the wilderness to flood inside. There are just six rooms, all designed with cosiness and comfort in mind and all boasting beautiful views across the landscape. The dining room looks across the lake and glaciers to the impressive Mt FitzRoy and on still days trout can be spotted in the gin-clear waters. The focus of the menu is on fresh, natural and local produce and you are warmly invited to visit the vegetable garden, pick some ingredients and join the chefs at work.

El Chaltén is known as the gateway to the trails of Los Glaciares National Park and trekking is certainly on the agenda at Aguas Arriba Lodge. Luggage collection can be arranged if you wish to hike into the lodge and guides are available daily to lead you on treks of a duration and difficulty to suit, taking in peaks, glaciers, valleys and waterfalls. Fly fishing can also be arranged for anyone wishing to tackle the challenging trout and guides are available to assist.

Despite its proximity to the colourful village of El Chaltén, Aguas Arriba Lodge feels wonderfully remote. It is an adventurer’s playground, a hikers’ paradise and an idyllic retreat for anyone seeking some R & R surrounded by the beauty of nature.
