Sitting peacefully in the azure Indian Ocean, Ibo Island is just 130 kms from mainland Pemba City, yet feels a world away. It is a beautiful, untouched sanctuary, nominated for World Heritage status, which boasts pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, lovingly restored architecture, colourful fish, and romantic, crumbling ruins entwined in twisted fig roots.

Ibo Island Lodge is the only luxury lodge on the island and offers 24 individually designed rooms featuring elegant pillars, coral and lime walls, lofty ceilings and solid teak beams. The tropical gardens showcase fantastic birdlife and the rim flow pool offers the perfect spot to relax through the warm afternoons. Dining is a real treat with dishes including green pawpaw salad and surf-fresh seafood platters served by lantern on the rooftop terrace under the stars. With the shore just feet away, sometimes dolphins can be seen in the bay and the sunsets are always spectacular.

There is plenty to keep you occupied during your stay here with activities including dhow safaris, beach picnics, scuba diving and snorkeling, guided historical and cultural tours, sea kayaking and for those in need of a little pampering, Mozambique spa treatments.

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.
