Arriving at the award-winning eco-tourism Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park, one cannot help but appreciate the contrast and enormity of Africa. Dwarfed by the majestic snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tortilis camp nestles in a verdant Acacia grove.  Named after the local Acacia tortilis (Umbrella tree), the camp is set in one of Amboseli’s few remaining areas of unspoilt woodland.

Accommodation is under canvas, but in style – large comfortable tents with king size beds, en-suite facilities and a hot cup of tea at your bedside when you wake up. There is a central bar, dining room and a lounge to relax in and gaze at the awe-inspiring view of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. Fresh herbs and vegetables are grown in camp and homemade pasta, Tortilis’...

The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.
