Three Countries, Countless Wonders: A Journey Through Southern Africa
Your adventure begins in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, where you’ll acclimate before heading south to the iconic red dunes of Sossusvlei. Here, sunrise paints the desert in hues of gold and crimson, offering breathtaking vistas. Continuing to the coastal town of Swakopmund, you’ll experience the blend of German colonial architecture and Atlantic Ocean breezes.
The journey then leads to Damaraland, a region known for its rugged beauty and ancient rock engravings. In Etosha National Park, you’ll embark on game drives across vast salt pans, home to elephants, lions, and a plethora of other wildlife. Crossing into Botswana, the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta await, where mokoro excursions reveal a world teeming with birdlife and aquatic species.
Further east, the Makgadikgadi Pans offer a stark contrast with their expansive salt flats, while Chobe National Park’s riverfront teems with elephants and hippos. In Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park provides one of Africa’s premier safari experiences, boasting a rich diversity of wildlife. The journey concludes at Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi River plunges into a dramatic gorge, creating one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural spectacles.
Throughout this expedition, you’ll stay in comfortable lodges, travel in well-equipped vehicles, and be guided by experienced professionals dedicated to providing an enriching and seamless experience.

21 AWE-INSPIRING DAYS
DAY 1 | WINDHOEK | 1 NIGHT
Today marks the start of your Great Trans-African Lodge Safari with Jenman.
On arrival at Windhoek Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel to spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. In Windhoek there is a great museum and a number of colorful local markets to discover. This evening you will meet your guide and the rest of your group at the lodge at 18h00 for your pre-departure meeting and the start of your safari.
DAY 2 | NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
Moving south you will make your way towards the Namib Naukluft National Park – the third largest national park in the continent of Africa. The park contains what is considered to be the oldest desert in the world and is filled with bright gold and magical red sand dunes.
Settle in to your tented accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
DAY 3 | NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
This morning you will wake up early to see the sun rise over the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These dunes, which can reach heights of over 300 metres, are absolutely spectacular and provide fantastic photo opportunities. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake).
You’ll also view the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River.
DAY 4 | SWAKOPMUND | 2 NIGHTS
The day is spent driving through the Namib Naukluft National Park to Swakopmund. This ia an ancient land with an ageless spirit that is home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in the world. Notable species include the oryx, springbok and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra.
En route you will stop in the small town of Walvis Bay to spot flamingos in the lagoon, before arriving at the quaint coastal city of Swakopmund in the late afternoon. Take some time to soak up the charming atmosphere of this little German enclave and, if you wish, visit a local urban sustainability centre to explore the ways in which energy, water, waste and biodiversity are preserved.
DAY 5 | SWAKOPMUND | 2 NIGHTS
A pause in the itinerary affords you a day to rest, relax and explore the colonial landmarks and wide sandy beaches of Swakopmund. You may choose to partake in optional activities offered by the hotel (at an additional cost).
DAY 6 | ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK | 3 NIGHTS
Leaving the Atlantic coastline behind, continue your journey by road towards Namibia’s best-known highlight of the north – Etosha National Park. The first night is spent at a comfortable lodge which neighbours the park, situated on an outcrop of dolomite rocks and overlooking a forest of Mopane and white Seringa trees.
Spend the afternoon relaxing at the pool, or take a leisurely stroll through the natural bush and gardens. Optional game drives are also available.
DAY 7 | ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK | 3 NIGHTS
After breakfast you will enter the Etosha National Park via the Anderson gate for a game drive to spot lion, leopard, elephant and rhino as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra and the numerous types of antelope the park has to offer.
Return to the lodge to relax for the afternoon, then as the sun sets, head to the flood-lit waterholes to see the park’s various nocturnal animals that come to drink.
DAY 8 | ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK | 3 NIGHTS
Another fulfilling day of game drives will showcase Etosha’s approximately 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish! Again, you will have front row seats to exciting nocturnal wildlife interactions at the waterhole, best enjoyed with a cold drink in hand!
DAY 9 | OKAVANGO DELTA | 2 NIGHTS
Departing from Etosha you’ll drive further north to the town of Rundu. Here you will visit the Mbunza Living Museum, a traditional cultural school and communal business for the local Kavango people who make a living from fishing, tending cattle and cultivating crops. Afterwards, continue to the Okavango River and settle into your lodge on its beautiful banks.
You can expect to arrive in the late afternoon perfectly in time to relax by the pool with a sundowner and listen to the sounds of Mother Nature.
DAY 10 | OKAVANGO DELTA | 2 NIGHTS
There’s time this morning for an early morning boat cruise on the river, before moving on again by road to another lodge situated on the banks of the Okavango River. Later in the afternoon, set off on a boat excursion to Popa Falls – a series of gentle rapids created by a geological fault, where the river drops around three metres over rocky terrain.
This is the point where the Okavango River starts to fan out across the sandy plains of the Kalahari, eventually forming Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
DAY 11 | MAHANGU NATIONAL PARK | 1 NIGHT
Today you will be driven to Mahangu, meaning ‘food of the local people’, which is well known as one of the most ecologically rich corners of Namibia thanks to the diversity of its habitats. A game drive through riverine forests, wetlands and unspoiled Kalahari sandveld will showcase some 400 species of bird, including various kingfishers and bee-eaters, wattled cranes, hornbills, and the unmistakable African fish eagle.
In the afternoon return to your lodge and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. This will be your last night in Namibia.
DAY 12 | MAUN | 1 NIGHT
Leaving Caprivi, travel south to Maun, known as the gateway to the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve. You have a free afternoon to relax and enjoy the lodge’s pool, and the opportunity to book optional activities, such as a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta by light aircraft (payable separately).
DAY 13 | OKAVANGO DELTA | 1 NIGHT
After breakfast, you’ll be met by expert guides and transferred to the mokoro station to begin your Delta safari. Drifting through the Okavango’s lush waterways in a traditional dug-out canoe, you’ll spot diverse birdlife and wildlife in this unique inland delta.
Later, continue to your camp in the Greater Moremi region. After dinner, head out on a night drive in the private concession to seek out elusive nocturnal species.
DAY 14 | MOREMI GAME RESERVE | 1 NIGHT
Today, explore the renowned Moremi Game Reserve in open four-wheel drive vehicles, accompanied by some of Botswana’s finest guides. This richly diverse wilderness offers excellent opportunities to spot a wide range of wildlife, including healthy populations of plains game and, with luck, all members of the Big Five.
While sightings vary with the seasons, your expert guides will use their deep local knowledge to deliver a phenomenal game-viewing experience.
DAY 15 | MAKGADIKGADI SALT PANS | 1 NIGHT
Depart the Botswana bush and journey east towards the extraordinary Makgadikgadi Pans—one of the flattest places on Earth. Once a vast, river-fed lake, the pans now lie dry for much of the year, their vast, shimmering emptiness offering a striking sense of solitude and scale.
In the afternoon visit the Nata Bird Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area overlooking the ethereal Sowa Pan which forms part of the greater Makgadikgadi system. It is a haven for bird enthusiasts and during breeding season, thousands of flamingos stretch across the pan.
DAY 16 | CHOBE NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
Head north to the Chobe region, which is famously home to one of the greatest concentrations of elephant found on the African continent. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure, relaxing at the lodge or partaking in optional activities – please enquire.
DAY 17 | CHOBE NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
A morning game drive provides exciting encounters with big game, including predators if you are in luck. In the afternoon you’ll take to the water for a boat cruise – one of the best ways to view the spectacular African sunset and the animals as they come down to the water to drink.
DAY 18 | HWANGE NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
Today, pass across the border into Zimbabwe and on to Hwange National Park where you will spend the next two nights on safari.
Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s finest havens for wildlife and is home to vast herds of elephant, buffalo, and zebra, as well as a very large concentration of giraffe. It is also home to many predators and endangered species, plus varied birdlife.
DAY 19 | HWANGE NATIONAL PARK | 2 NIGHTS
Enjoy a full day of game viewing activities in the company of expert guides.
DAY 20 | VICTORIA FALLS | 1 NIGHT
On your penultimate day, travel to Victoria Falls for a guided excursion through the national park. Witness the power of the mighty ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ – and feel the spray rising from the cascade.
In the afternoon, relax on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River spotting the crocodiles and hippos along the way.
You may also wish to take advantage of the wide range of optional activities available at Victoria Falls. Local operators offer everything from microlight flights and white-water rafting to bungee jumping and more. Please enquire for details.

Thank you for putting together the ancestral adventure of a lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough of the trip. The transfers went smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, the drivers were amazing as they manoeuvred through the traffic and every tour guide had a great deal of knowledge and information. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The contrast of poverty and riches of the country was striking, from the beggars in the street and struggles of the poor to the spectacular, impressive sights of the forts and monuments. There were so many highlights. A moment in time that will never happen again.
Jenny KiddExellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.
Elizabeth MackintoshWe wanted the opportunity to see as many wildlife parks as possible and the Classic Safari Company provided an action-packed itinerary that included six, with 11 tiger sightings and nine leopard. This was overlaid with an introduction to Jaisalmer, Jaipur and the 'real' India. Pench and Panna were the hidden gems of a really great trip, very well organised, seamless and enjoyable. As a solo traveller I felt incredibly safe at all times. I want to go back!
